Written response on the following topic: The Newsroom/I Am Canadian “Classification” “Bases of Identity”
Provide reasons to support why you think your analysis is important. These are meant to be less
formal than an essay but should still have a clear argument and make good use of the course
material. The target audience for these responses is intelligent undergraduates unfamiliar with
the topic. Your audience should understand your explanation, but also your argument. You are
welcome to use first-person pronouns but make sure you understand the difference between an
unsupported opinion and a carefully considered, evidence-based viewpoint.
Your critical response should keep these questions in mind as you critically consider the issue or
concept you decide to discuss: What does the concept have to say about identity? Why do
you think it is important? Why should your reader care? These questions are guidelines
only and should not be answered literally.
