Showing and Figurative Language
Begin in your writing notebook. Make a list of 10 things of which you are very good at. Include talents, skills, hobbies, and character qualities. These can be anything you feel you are skilled at: making friends, baking cookies, writing poetry, teaching your dog tricks, finding rocks…
I need to Choose one that appeals to you and feel free write anything that comes to mind.
Then think of a person who is connected with this skill/talent – maybe the person who taught you, someone who discouraged you from doing it, or someone who does it with you.
*I need to write about a scene or event that involves your skill/talent and the person you identified in #3. Write one to three paragraphs. This will be your writing assignment. Your paragraphs should show rather than tell and should include:
sensory details
dialogue or quotes that are used as dialogue
at least one instance of figurative language besides imagery (metaphor, simile, personification).
showing with imagery and dialogue.
use figurative language.
write two to three paragraphs.
