one-page reflection (at least a few developed paragraphs, about a full page of writing ) where you share your initial reactions and thoughts about how you could respond to the prompt for the Personal Narrative Writing Project.
Your reflection should address the following ideas:
Who are you? How do you define yourself? What have you experienced in life that you are compelled to discuss? In other words, what issues surrounding identity and culture are you considering for this assignment? What do you think you want to share?
Who is your intended audience? In other words, who do you want to reach in your argument? Who will benefit from hearing your message?
What is your purpose in this assignment? What is the overall argument you want to explore? What message or meaning do you want your readers/viewers to take away from hearing your story?
What genre of text could help you get your point across most effectively? Consider how you can impact your readers. Do you want to show video footage or use sound effects, or do you want to include dialogue or conversation? Will those strategies be better for a TED Talk or a memoir or essay or perhaps something hybrid? Why?
Does the idea of writing a personal narrative excite you, scare you, bore you? What do you think is your strength in this assignment, and what will be your biggest challenge? Why?
