First writte a draft of your research question (or questions) for your final essay as well as a brief discussion of the kinds of sources (primary and secondary) you plan to use. (Keep in mind that you are still in the early stages of the research/writing process, so you’re simply brainstorming and soliciting feedback — you can always change direction.)

Then
ask:
Pick a relevant topic.
Find at least 3 primary sources related to your topic.
Use at least 1 secondary source to add to the “conversation.”
Writte a 4-5 page esssay, answering the following questions using your primary sources as evidence.
What is the relationship between news media and a healthy society?
What is the current state of that (above) relationship?
What is at stake?
What can be done?
Hint: the answer to these questions will be your thesis statement.
Guidelines:
The topic is up to you. But it should be timely (something in the current news cycle) so that you are able to find sources. It should also be a topic that matters to you and potentially to your reader.
Your essay should make use of both primary and secondary sources.
Your essay should analyze at least 3 primary sources. The primary sources should be news-media texts about the topic of your choosing. (All 3 texts should be on the same topic
Your essay should make use of at least 1 secondary source.
Your essay should make an argument and have a clear thesis statement.
Your essay should articulate the stakes of your argument.
