Compare the ways that masculinity is being treated in these movie. How does each demonstrate the idea of masculinity, and how does each seem to view it?
If you want clarification, masculinity is a social construct. It is a set of behaviors and appearances that society deems appropriate for men. It isn’t innate; it changes from place to place and over time. Traditionally masculine qualities have included things like aggression, dominance, loudness, decisiveness etc. These things have often been considered positive. It’s interesting to note that when these behaviors are displayed by women they are often given different terms and seen as negative qualities – shrill, bossy etc.
