The Artist’s Sketch
This discussion provides you with an opportunity to practice “seeing” a work of art by drawing it. For this discussion you will choose a work of art from this week’s reading assignment or resources and spend time reproducing it using a medium of your choice (e.g., pencil, charcoal, pen).
The goal is for you to look more closely at the elements in the work presented in the video How to Look at Art, such as line, value, scale, etc. It is not expected that you create a polished drawing, however, effort should be apparent in your work.
Expect to spend 30+ minutes on the drawing portion of this assignment. Drawings need to show evidence of time and effort.
Once your drawing is complete, reflect on the experience in your initial post to the discussion. Include the following:
A clear photograph of your drawing and your original image for comparison
A 300+ reflection that discusses the insights you gained from a deep visual examination of the artwork as well as a discussion of the art elements and design principles that are most apparent in your chosen artwork.
Include two or more responses to classmates that further the discussion and add new insights.
