1. Discuss whether you agree with their perspective on which elements of the RERUN process were used.

I am an early head start teacher. I remember an experience I had with one of my student’s parents. I had a student who constantly got ear infections, so she would have to miss school days. One day her mother told me that she believed the ear infections were coming from her playing outside on the playground at school. The mother asked if we could make sure her coat and hat always stay on. I said absolutely. A couple of weeks passed, and the student developed another ear infection. So the mother asked if we could not take her child outside because outside gave her an ear infection. I use the explain section of the rerun process. I listened to her concerns very carefully and understood her point of view. I explain to her that our school standards and policy state that all children in our program must go outside for at least 15 minutes each day. The mother insisted that we not take her child out. I understood her concerns. So I decided to negotiate with the parent. We decided not just to put her on a hat but ear muffs as well. Me and the parent, that would be a great idea. The parent also checks with her doctor about putting tubes in the child’s ears. We did incredible teamwork in resolving this matter.
The elements of the rerun process I use are Explain, Understanding, and Negotiating.
How I can use this process in the future is to understand and execute the rerun process. I will remember the steps to ensure the parents, and I have an agreement and respect one another’s concerns, cultures, and beliefs.
