Volunteer in your community
Find a volunteer opportunity in your community. This can be part of a group volunteer effort such as a community clean up or an individual effort such as volunteering at a nursing home.
Decide on a cardiovascular activity such as running, riding a bike, or hiking. Do the activity for 30 minutes a day for 5 days in a row.
Attend a group yoga class. You may choose any yoga class of your choice. Free yoga classes are offered to the first Saturday of every month by Salt Lake Power Yoga as part of the Made to Move Yoga at City Creek series and at the Patagonia Outlet on Sunday evenings. Laugh More, Stress Less
Over the next 5 days, seek out situations or activities that make you laugh. Watch funny movies, ask your friends to tell you funny stories (or maybe relate a few of your own!), read humorous articles, or anything else that makes you laugh! Keep a journal of the things that made you laugh. In your response, be sure to discuss the actions you took to laugh more and if they were effective.
Take Time for Yourself
Make a list of things you like to do that take less than 30 minutes. Over the next 5 days, take 30 minutes every day and do something you enjoy. Keep a journal of the things you did. In your response make sure to discuss how easy or difficult it was to fit the 30 minutes in each day and whether or not it was worth it.
Get Some Sleep
Over the next 5 days go to bed at the same time and get up at the same time so that you get 8 hours of sleep. In your response address how easy/difficult this was for you and whether or not you noticed a difference in your day-to-day life.
Sit in a quiet position and focus on your breathing using the techniques learned in class. Do this at least once a day for 5 days consecutive days.
Put that Phone Away!
Cell phones are wonderful devices that enrich our everyday lives. However, they can also draw us away from the present moment and cause stress of their own. For the 5 consecutive days, turn your phone off for two hours each day. Note the times that you turned the phone off in your response.
Over the next 5 days, use the Progressive Muscle Relaxation technique used in class once or twice a day.
