For the assignment, you will individually observe 3 public locations of your choice. Each of these locations will be a commercial or mixed-use (not entirely residential, not a public space such as a park) block. You’ll be focusing on those aspects of these location that may enhance or diminish crime. You will collect two kinds of data – quantitative and qualitative. Please keep your own safety in mind as you choose where and when to make your observations. For the quantitative part of the assignment, you and your group will pick 5 of the indicators of physical disorder and 2 of the indicators of social disorder among the options described in your textbook in Ch. 9 — Exhibit 9.7 in newer edition and Exhibit 9.6 in older edition. Each of the group members will count how many of the blocks exhibit each of the indicators your group has designated to assess. See the table below for an example of how to format descriptive statistics into a table for your group’s submission, as described below. In addition, each group member will make field notes for each block observing any characteristics that you think may enhance or mitigate fear of crime among visitors and residents in that area. These notes will be primarily qualitative in nature – that is, don’t duplicate a count of factors that you think matter, but instead add richness and detail to supplement your quantitative observations above. Some things you might consider – qualitative pedestrian traffic characteristics – leisurely, family groupings, landscaping, nature of the mix of commercial development along with mixed-use (residential and commercial) in the area, , the demographics of those in the area (e.g., age and gender structure, race/ethnicity if apparent – note that some of these considerations will necessarily tread into stereotype territory so make your observations as clinical and objective as possible), and other features that you consider relevant to fear of crime. You should NOT refer to actual crime statistics for the area that you observe. This is an exercise in observation of those factors that might make individuals feel more or less safe, regardless of whether the level of fear is ‘rational.’ Thus, your entire analysis will be based on your observations, not other sources of data.Your group will submit a 2-3 page paper (single-spaced) that will include the following. First, you will format a table that communicates your tabulation of percentage of blocks that exhibit each characteristic you chose to assess for the quantitative part. Second, you will summarize and thematize your qualitative observations to ‘tell a story’ about factors that you observed that affect fear of crime, integrating the statistics that you compiled for the quantitative part in this ‘story.’ That is, your group will summarize and integrate each of your observations to convey your sense of how the areas that you observed enhance or diminish a general fear of crime, citing relevant observations and statistics that you compiled to make your case.As always, your paper should be well-organized, clearly written, and proofread.* Important: See the uploaded file each of our group members required to choose three places, those are three area that I would chose in Denver ( Colfax, Colorado Blvd, and S cherry creek) as u see the uploaded file each area have to be in block, three area in three blocks.*Dont include (Field notes including description of the area(QUALITATIVE DATA) in the blocks because u gonna write A paragraph about it
