Task:

You will review a movie (e.g., A Beautiful Mind (2001), Split (2016), Requiem for A Dream (2000), Fatal Attraction (1987) or Girl, Interrupted (1999)) that depicts a psychological disorder. Your review should include the following: 

1. A brief summary (no more than two paragraphs) of the movie including a description of the main characters or, the supporting character displaying the psychological disorder.
2. What abnormal behavior did the character display? That is, what actions (e.g., bizarre behavior), cognitions (e.g., irrational thoughts), and emotions (e.g., profound sadness).
3. What is their diagnosis? Was the diagnosis explicitly stated or was it implied? What are the symptoms displayed that support the diagnosis? (Use the criteria noted in the DSM V)
4. What treatment, if any, is the character participating in? What are the techniques employed (e.g., group versus individual therapy, free association, electroconvulsive therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, etc.)?
5. Finally, explain the cause and possible treatments for the disorder from at least two perspectives discussed in class (e.g., psychodynamic, biological, behavioral, cognitive, humanistic, and sociocultural).
