Scientific Reasoning Assignment 1 –  Reading a Research Brief

In this first of a series of three assignments, I want you to read a short research brief and then answer questions based on the information contained in the research brief. There is no need to look for additional information other than clarifying terms through your textbook.

Objectives:

1. Identify the components in an experiment supports course objective 2
2. Interpret findings and the appropriate use of findings supports course objectives 2 and 3

Activities:

1. Read the Research Brief: Effects of Music on Mental Abilities.
2. Refer to Chapter 1 of the text for assistance in answering the questions.
3. You may wish to go back to Chapter 1 and re-listen to the podcast about The Mozart Effect. The original researcher is interviewed in this program
4. Review the worksheet on Identifying Independent and Dependent Variables for practice.
   The IV and DV can be found in each of these hypotheses.
5. Review the assignment rubric before submitting your answers.
