Assignment Instructions

For this week’s journal assignment I want you to choose a narrative passage from the week’s readings–that is, a passage that features characters interacting–and imagine yourself into it, Ignatius of Loyola style. What character are you? What sensory information is around you (sight, sound, smell, taste, touch)? As the passage moves forward, what is your character thinking about? What are they feeling? How are they reacting to the scene and the other people? 

Ignatius would say that if you feel more in touch with, or more love for, the human or divine than you did when you started, then you did it correctly. So for the journal, tell me about the experience. How do you feel differently than you did when you started this exercise, and what happened along the way to inspire that change? Two page minimum (this counts as our "midterm exam")

Objectives

2. Students will be able to analyze literary texts and articulate their findings orally and in writing.
3. Students will be able to identify distinctions between people of different cultures and eras as well as continuities and similarities that provide common ground for effective intercultural communication and understanding.
