This individual project must directly analyze an issue in the media that relates to any of the topics included in the class syllabus. It will be written in essay format, 6-8 pages long plus references, with a thesis statement (stating the topic and issue you followed and the Canadian media source (Sootoday, The Star, CBC, Al Jazeera, APTN, etc). Make sure you are citing your peer reviewed and verifiable sources in your discussion and analysis of the topic you are following in the media source you choose.

I expect this written assignment to make specific reference to debates, activities, and problems discussed in the class readings (make sure you cite them properly from the original source, not my lecture!). It is important to also state what key concepts learned so far in class help you explain the crime and perspective you are following.

I need to see a clear understanding of the topic, since you will follow it over the course of four to five weeks.

 Examples:

Racialization and impact on society of “Wanted Wednesdays” on Sootoday. 

I will assess this assignment based on:

-Theoretical premise/perspective

-Links to key concepts and knowledge you are acquiring throughout the course? 

 - Is the issue clearly communicated, backed up by research and properly referenced?

 You may refer to key concepts addressed during class discussions and activities. Always cite your source (not the instructor or my lecture notes!)

 It is an essay, so you must follow the style, language, citation method, and organization expected in an academic setting.
