Analyze behavior therapy and its processes in counseling.

The behaviorist approach, which focuses on observable behavior, emphasizes the effects of environmental forces. Generally, it is believed that by manipulating the environment through behavior modification principles, change will be positively effectuated in the behavior of the counselee.

• Read Chapter 9 of your textbook by Corey, Theory and Practice of Counseling and Psychotherapy. Pay particular attention to pages 255-274.

• Prepare to share in discussion a compare and contrast analysis of classical conditioning, operant conditioning, and cognitive behavior therapy.
• In addition, explain how Behavior Therapy can be effective in mental health and/or substance abuse counseling.
