The Power of Painting

This Essay covers material from Chapters 2.1 – 2.4 of your textbook:

Painting is widely regarded as the most popular artistic medium and is the one that most people associate with the practice of visual art. Think about what art you were most likely familiar with before this class – The Mona Lisa, Starry Night, The Sistine Chapel – all are paintings. Why not sculpture, architecture, photography, printmaking, or the other media? Is there one medium within painting, for example oil paint, or tempera, that most represents this phenomenon? Even as the world has become more technologically advanced, painting has still remained one of the dominant mediums in the visual arts. Create an “argument (Links to an external site.)” as to why this might be, and please reference, and include examples. Or, maybe you have a different opinion about this topic – make sure you reference examples as to why. Perhaps you are of a non-western culture, and this is not true – why?

As far as formatting and length and such, I would like at least 400 words, or about a page. Ideally you have have an introduction paragraph which contains a thesis statement, a body of example paragraphs which support your thesis (including images), and a conclusion which summarizes your ideas and opinions. This is a multi-part question – I am looking for responses to each part in your essay.
