Create a document that analyzes the needs of families with young children, to include the following:

Introduction:

Where is your community located? What is your role in your community?

Part 1:  What options are currently offered for families in your community? Are there both licensed programs and registered ministries?  Is the only child care available in family homes? Are there full day (child care) and part day (preschool) programs? Does your community offer Head Start and Early Head Start to eligible families? Does your school system have early childhood programs? A good place to start is the FSSA website. (Childcarefinder (Links to an external site.)) Do a program search by zip code or the name of your community. How do the programs in your community rank on the Indiana Paths to Quality? Are there NAEYC accredited programs in your community?

Part 2:  Based upon the population growth or decline in your community, what do you see as the community need? Where are families in your community challenged to find early childhood choices that meet their needs? Are there problems with affordability, location, hours of operation, etc.?

Part 3:  Pretend that you have been asked to serve on the local United Way advisory committee for child care in your community. Your committee can make a grant of up to $10,000 to improve the quality of child care options in your area. Now that you have read about the wide range of types of programs possible in our field and in your community, how would you propose the grant money be spent (keep in mind that United Way funds can only be used for non-profit agencies)?  Would all of your funds go to a start-up for one program (add an infant room, or a school age program?  Would they be used for accreditation, for equipment, for scholarships? Your response should align with your answers to parts 1 and 2.
