For this assignment you are going to write about the artist that you have selected below. Before your begin writing the assignment, please refer to the Rubric in the M7 Assignment in the Drop Box which is under Assessments in the top menu of this course for a detailed analysis of the expectations and point distribution. Viewing the Rubric will help you determine the weight for each topic area of the assignment.

Your work should be in paragraph form and use complete, grammatically correct sentences.  Valued at 100 possible points, this report represents the majority of the grade for this module and you should cover each topic area thoroughly. Please use your own words.  Copying from another student or from any source will be considered academic dishonesty and will be given a grade of 0%.

List any sources that you use at the end of the paper.

 Who do you consider to be the greatest jazz or rock artist/group of the 20^th Century?

 Your report should support your choice with all of the following criteria:

1. Who is the artist or group? What is their genre?
2. Did they create a new or groundbreaking style? Using musical terms explain how they are unique. Include a YouTube link of one of their songs (It can be just audio.) that demonstrates their style.
3. In order to be considered  great they must have longevity in terms of their popularity and number of hits/concerts over a period of years. Have they met the criteria either in performance or recordings or both? Explain your answer.
4. Great artists will also influence those that come after them.  Have other groups or artists imitated their style? Name at least one group/artist that has been influenced by them or imitated their style. Explain the musical influence thoroughly. The musical imitation needs to be substantiated.
