Meet JP

JP is a 49 year old African American male diagnosed with hypertension and hyperlipidemia (meaning his cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL are all high) He states that he really wants to control his blood pressure and his hyperlipidemia without having to take medications. 

Lab Values: Cholesterol 220 (high), Triglycerides 175 (high), LDL 110 (bad cholesterol) (high), HDL 35 (good cholesterol) (too low)

JP’s usual dietary intake: Breakfast: Oatmeal or cold cereal, Lunch: Sandwich with ham or salami and canned soup Dinner: Grilled chicken and baked potato or steak and rice. Snacks: chips, diet soda, sweet roll and coffee, peanut butter and crackers or popcorn
