2 pages, 1.5-2.0 spaced, Standard academic writing conventions, include works cited and in paragraph quotations and citing as necessary.

  1. Think about a social dance form we have discussed and studied in the class, or perhaps a style or form we haven’t. This could be a single party dance move turned into a dance, like Harlem Shake, flossin, etc, or a TikTok Dance, or it could be a social dance style/form that has been around for a while whose popularity still endures, like country line dancing, Breaking, Lite Feet, Krump, Vogue, House Dance, etc.
  2. Once youve chosen your dance style, you will need to do some research. Go to the library search engine and find at least two scholarly articles or a column or magazine article about this style/move/form. These articles could be from newspapers or magazines (web versions OK). Look for credible sources.
  3. Use your research to answer the following questions in paragraph form:
    1. Discuss where the dance originated (who, what, where, when, why)
    2. Describe the dance (movement style, solo vs. partner vs. group, any affiliated musical style)
    3. Describe how and why the dance spread and became popular. This could be due to social media, promotion by a celebrity, or a variety of other reasons.
  4. Making Connections: Make connections between your selected dance style and current political/cultural/social issues. If your research identified some of these connections already, use that information to complete this section (citing your sources).  If your research did not identify any of these connections, do further research to see what you can find.
  5. Include a Works Cited page: cite your sources (doesn’t matter what format you use -APA, MLA, etc – as long as it is consistent).
